Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

Apparently, the Miami Dolphins are real close to signing Joey Harrington to a deal to back-up Daunte Culpepper. The Bengals and Cowboys are also said to be interested, but I guess right now Miami's the closest to putting an offer on the table. No matter where he winds up, does this kid have any chance of salvaging his career?

I think he still has tremendous upside. As a Cowboy fan needing the QB of the future, I am envious of the Fish being so close to signing. I went ot lunch with a Miamoi fan yesterday that was very excited that his team had a shot at Harrington.

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

I think Harrington has a shot at being successful in the league if he gets in the right system. I definitely hope he gets another chance at proving himself.

The Dolphins would be crazy to not sign him if they have a chance. He would be a very good backup for Culpepper-who may be injury prone..

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

Harrington came out publically today and stated that he wants to play for Miami. So apparently, it looks like he will wind up being a Dolphin. The only thing is, he's still technically under contract with Detroit - which surprised me, as I thought they had cut him. Word is that some other teams are looking to deal for him, but he's not interested in playing anywhere but Miami. So I guess time will tell how this all plays out.

I thought they cut him too. Does anybody know for sure? I still say Cincinnati would have been perfect for him.

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

He is still a decent quarterback under all circumstances. He is not a bad quarterback or an amazing hurler, but he is definitely better than a large percentage of quarterbacks in the NFL.

I like the kid...would have love to have seen him sign with Dallas though...nothing against Drew Bledsoe, but its time to groom the next one...

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

What good would he be on Dallas? The Cowboys are set on Bledsoe for the regular season. Unless Bledsoe get injured, Harrington wouldn't get any snaps.

Gee Marc, it's called planning for the future...mister Bledsoe is nice and all, but he is not mobile and he won't last forever...What good is Harrington in Miami if they already signed Daunte?...nevermind...carry on...

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

Daunte Culpepper may be a great quarterback and all but he get injured often. And when Culpepper gets injured it is likely and season-ending injury.

Never-the-less, Joey was signed on as a back-up...he could have served an equal role in Dallas...

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

Drew Bledsoe hasn't missed a game since the 2001 season (where he sat bench).

Re: Dolphins to sign Joey Harrington?

Not to mention -- you've got to wonder about his future beyond this season or next, right?

That's the road I wanted to get Marc on...but he veered off the road for me...Bledsoe can't play forever...and Drew Henson is iffy...so yes...I wanted Joey...
