Nick Saban is leaving the Dolphins.

Saban has accepted an offer to coach the University of Alabama, spurning a last-minute attempt by Miami owner Wayne Huizenga to convince the coach to stay.

Saban, the seventh coach in Miami's 41-year history, leaves after two seasons in which the Dolphins were 15-17 and failed to make the playoffs both seasons.

The Dolphins have already begun preparations to search for a new coach, with Huizenga and Joe Bailey, CEO of Dolphins Enterprises, expected to head up the search along with club president Bryan Wiedmeier.

It is unclear what role, if any, general manager Randy Mueller will have in the search process.

No official list of potential replacements is available, although there will be plenty of speculation in the coming hours about possibilities such as Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, Louisville's Bobby Petrino, USC coach Pete Carroll and Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops.

They're all over the place in the Bama forum.

Here's one I "borrowed" -- Saban agrees to contract with Alabama: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Re: Saban Leaves Miami For Alabama

Can't say I like the way he left. If reports of him skipping the meeting with the owner and informing his coaches via speaker phone are true, it's a very Bush-league way to go. Some new reports are surfacing saying that he did in fact meet with the 'Fins owner and said he's stay if he had to, but the owner told him Saban "had to follow his heart." I guess the real details will make themselves known over time.

Dolphins owner to have live press conference any minute now on ESPN

not sure if he will talk about next Dolphins coach or not

would seem likely he will only have nice things to say about Saban

Re: Saban Leaves Miami For Alabama

Ha ha! That's because there's 87 of them across three different forums!

Saban allegedly had been campaigning for college jobs for a long time. He apparently didn't like coaching in the pros. Well, as Huizenga said, it is what it is. But it looks to me like he's essentially football's version of Larry Brown, needing a new job every three or four seasons.

Re: Saban Leaves Miami For Alabama

wow

Huizenga (yes i had to look at the TV screen to spell that) seemed like he was asking the press reporters to tell him who to offer the head coaching job to..........it was really kind of sad........to me, he really looked out of touch and lost when he was talking like that........basically begging for input from reporters

Re: Saban Leaves Miami For Alabama

Seems like Saban was in over his head in Miami and thought he could turn them around in one or two years. He looks like a guy who enjoys recruiting and actually teaching players than what a head coach can do in the NFL.

Re: Saban Leaves Miami For Alabama

I am so happy he left. I was not happy when they hired him because I don't like college coaches going to the NFL...never seems to work out.

On the other hand it kind of sucks because of my love for UT & he just made the SEC harder for my beloved Vols. I wanted him gone but sure did not want him back in the SEC.
Oh well, guess I can't have everything I want.
