Youtube Clip of Culpepper/Portis & Couple Articles

Pretty funny, also underscores how it was just plain a bad throw:

Even after return, doubt surrounds Culpepper
Published September 8, 2006
PITTSBURGH -- Daunte Culpepper's knee was never the issue.

Costly interceptions were the issue.

Dumb decisions were the issue.

A tendency to unravel quickly and at inopportune times was the issue.

Pretty much everything Culpepper did during the fourth quarter of Miami's 28-17 loss to Pittsburgh on the NFL's opening night was the issue.

If you thought the reason Culpepper is no longer in Minnesota had to do with shredded knee ligaments, then watching Culpepper on Thursday night was like putting ammonia under your nose.

Thursday night was why a stoic, aging Brad Johnson is more attractive to the Vikings than a gregarious, more physically gifted Culpepper.

As far as debuts go, this one was somewhere between complete disappointment and total stinker.

Even without Big Ben, Steelers had better QB

PITTSBURGH - Charlie Batch outplayed Daunte Culpepper. Outplayed? He was Ali to Culpepper's Wepner. He was rock to Culpepper's scissors. He was windshield to Culpepper's bug.
Batch was 126.5 by the quarterback rating.
Culpepper was 49.5.

Commentary: A leader? Daunte looks lost
By Greg Stoda

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

PITTSBURGH — He didn't look very dangerous.

It was supposed to be different for the Dolphins with Daunte Culpepper as their quarterback after a long procession of mediocrity at the position.

But it wasn't.

Culpepper - carrying a burden dating to Dan Marino - seemed more custodial than cutthroat, and that can't be why the Dolphins got him.

It just can't be.

And the custodial part was while he was playing modestly well.

Things turned downright awful for the Dolphins when Culpepper finally went haywire. It's too early, certainly, to assume caretaking is the best Culpepper can do, but this performance had to be at least a little frightening for Miami's bosses.

That was the gist of it, really, from Heinz Field in elementary explanation of Miami's 28-17 loss to Pittsburgh in Thursday's first game of the NFL season.

That and Culpepper's astonishing and crushing late failings with the game in the balance.

"I'm better than that," Culpepper said.

He'd better be, or the Dolphins will be in deep trouble quickly.

Welcome Miamirules...man...this was harsh...

I remember Ali-Wepner....and Culpepper was no Wepner...Wepner never had talent...Culpepper blew it in the 4th...totally different animals.

I'm dumping Culpepper, unless I can pull of a lucky trade for some next-year rounders.
