MEMPHIS, June 25, 2007 — The NBA announced today that Grizzlies forward Mike Miller has been honored with the Community Assist Award for May, in recognition of his outstanding efforts and ongoing philanthropic efforts in the community.
A native of South Dakota, Miller and his wife Jennifer recently made a $1 million donation to establish the Mike and Jennifer Miller Endowment Fund to support the Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Sanford Health has named its soon-to-be-built pediatric intensive care unit the Mike and Jennifer Miller Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in recognition of the donation and the Millers’ consistent work with the hospital. Expected to be completed in 2009, the new building will provide inpatient, outpatient and clinic services for pediatric patients and their families in a family-centered environment designed to meet the unique healing needs of children.
“I am blessed to have the opportunity to contribute to the Sanford Children’s Hospital during its groundbreaking phase,” said Miller. “The gift not only reflects a continuing commitment to my home state of South Dakota, but also acts as a reminder for my enormous good fortune in having two happy and healthy sons. Hopefully in this small way I can spread my blessings to others in need.”
