There are two main areas the Grizzlies will be looking to address this offseason, either through the draft, free agency or trades. The first of those needs is the center position. While Pau Gasol has done a commendable job playing at the five, the team has been searching for a big man for several seasons so that Gasol can slide back to his natural position of power forward. In addition, the Grizzlies will need to address the point guard spot. Chucky Atkins is a free agent, last year’s first round pick, Kyle Lowry, played just 10 games due to a broken wrist, and Damon Stoudamire was still hampered by the serious knee injury he suffered in December 2005 at various times last season. Of course, depending on where the Grizzlies pick in the draft, if there’s a player who doesn’t fit either need who’s just too good to pass up, President of Basketball Operations Jerry West has shown that he’s not afraid to take the best player available, regardless of position.
