Although the two teams were tied 61-61 at the half, it took the Grizzlies shooting 63.2% from the field for them to keep pace with the Hornets. Memphis couldn’t find a way to stop the Hornets’ post players, particularly David West and Tyson Chandler.
So not surprisingly, when Memphis couldn’t keep up their 63% shooting in the second half, the Hornets capitalized. They outscored the Grizzlies 31-20 in the third and went up by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter before finishing with the 11-point victory.
“I thought in the first half, the offense was clicking so well that we forgot that we had to guard these guys,” said Hornets head coach Byron Scott. “In the third quarter, we made up our minds that we had to shut them down a little bit. We had to slow Gasol down, and I thought we did a pretty good job in the second half.”
