Balancing act for UM

COLLEGE PARK - Virginia revived bad memories for Maryland by coming out playing zone defense at Comcast Center last night. Eric Hayes started immediately to think about the last time that had happened.

"When American and Ohio did it, we weren't ready," the sophomore guard said, referring to his team's back-to-back home losses last month.

The Terps were ready this time. Maryland's first four possessions resulted in baskets, including two three-pointers by Hayes, and it set the tone for an 85-75 victory in which the Terps built a 15-point lead and held off Virginia's late second-half comeback.
