Re: LSU football loses Xavier Carter to pro track

Big loss for the LSU football program. Wide receiver Xavier Carter has announced his plans to leave the football team and join the professional track circuit. This comes after Carter won the 100 meters, the 400, and the 400 and 1,600-meter relays at the NCAA track and field championships. He's the first person ever to pull off wins in both the 100 and 400 in the same year and the four wins tied an collegiate record held by Jesse Owens. Big blow to the football club, but if the kid has this kind of natural running ability, can you blame him for pursuing a track career?

1 month since the announcement and he's tearing it up. He dominated the NCAA finals and has had some great times since then.

So who thinks Xavier Carter made a good career decision?

Good in the fact that he's successful in what he's doing? Absolutely. But let's remember, the best track athlete makes millions less than a mediocre NFL wide receiver. I sure hope Carter's happy running track and setting records, because he gave up a lot of earning potential to do it, you know?

I'm a big track & field fan, and I can tell you that yes, the biggest track star only makes about as much as the lowest-paid NFL player, but X-man does indeed have the potential to be the biggest track star. Us track fans constantly see potential stars succumb to the lure of football; it's nice for us to win one away from football for once.

So how has Carter been doing in his track career, anyway?

After the Olympics you can expect to see him in the NFL. Bet on it!
