Transfers aside, first-year LSU football players are available to the news media once — at preseason media day. Only something extraordinary will lead to an exception.
Coach Les Miles gladly made an exception Saturday night after the blitz by freshman safety Chad Jones that put the Tigers in position to score the winning touchdown in a 41-34 victory at Alabama.
A day later, Miles sat near his office with two newspaper reporters and suggested they wouldn’t be wasting their time writing about Jones.
“Any time you spend in article form on him is worth it, just so you know,” Miles said.
Miles then began chuckling as if he were the caretaker of a magical, mystical secret.
“He’s going to be pretty damn good, man,” Miles said.
The secret’s out, coach.
