| Practice has Tigers seeing orange There was some odd color coding at No. 2-ranked LSU's practice Tuesday afternoon in Baton Rouge. Generally, the scout team wears jerseys that are the color of the upcoming opponent. This week, however, the scout team players are clad in orange. Team officials were emphatic that the color has nothing to do with LSU's showdown against No. 4-ranked Florida on Oct. 6 at Tiger Stadium. Rather than looking past Saturday's opponent, Tulane, the color choice reflects the fact green could not be used. That's the color that goes to quarterbacks and players nursing injuries, and they are not allowed physical contact. Black wouldn't work, either, according to the equipment staff, because it can't be differentiated from purple on film, and purple is the color that the defense wears. White is out, too, because that's the color worn by offensive players. So orange it is, and orange it will be for two weeks. However, green was worn by more than just the quarterbacks Tuesday. Although LSU has not mentioned any nicks to sophomore tailback Keiland Williams or sophomore wide receiver Jared Mitchell, both wore green. The players didn't appear slowed in any way, and Mitchell wore green because the equipment room ran out of white "Tiger Club" jerseys. Despite dropping some passes and muffing one punt return against South Carolina last week, Mitchell earned a Tiger Club designation this week. Two starting Tigers were not at the sliver of practice open to the media, and the reason for their absence was unclear. Neither senior linebacker Ali Highsmith, who leads the team with 31 total tackles, nor junior defensive tackle Marlon Favorite, who replaced junior Charles Alexander in the starting lineup last week when Alexander was lost for the season with a knee injury, were on the field. HIGH AND DRY: The soggy weather could work to LSU's advantage this week. With intermittent showers and drizzling, the team has been practicing in its indoor facility, which is carpeted with "SportX Turf," the same surface on the floor of the Superdome, where the Tigers face the Green Wave on Saturday at 11 a.m. Practice has Tigers seeing orange- NOLA.com
