| LSU will continue to use two quarterbacks BATON ROUGE -- For the remainder of the season, No. 2-ranked LSU will operate with a two-quarterback format, Matt Flynn as the starter and Ryan Perrilloux playing extensively, Coach Les Miles said. Miles said the ankle sprain Flynn, a fifth-year senior, suffered against then-No. 9 ranked Virginia Tech in LSU's 48-7 victory Sept. 8 at Tiger Stadium is not the factor, and in his statements Saturday night (after host LSU's 28-16 victory against then-No. 12 ranked South Carolina) and again Sunday confirmed the de facto situation on the field. Flynn was unable to play in the Tigers' 44-0 victory against Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 15 at Tiger Stadium, and Perrilloux, a sophomore, has played well in every game this season. For LSU (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference), the decision to go with two quarterbacks is a plus, though it is a football maxim that a team with two signal-callers has none. The Tigers are not conducting an extended competition, but rather trying to utilize the skills each player brings to different situations, Miles said. "Matt Flynn is our starter, period," he declared. "For me, the opportunity to use a quarterback who can throw and run gives your offense a tremendous advantage." In the past, Miles had insisted LSU ran the same offense regardless of who was behind center, but Sunday he acknowledged the team has different packages for each. That became evident Saturday during the Tigers' triumph over the Gamecocks when Flynn had near exclusive command of the passing attack and Perrilloux spelled him with hard-nosed running throughout the game. LSU will continue to use two quarterbacks
