| Miles must accept the media isn't on LSU's payroll Someone in the LSU athletic hierarchy, who is higher on the food chain than Coach Les Miles, should take the time to remind the head football coach that he's not coaching LSU Primary School, LSU Middle School or LSU High School. And that just because he chooses to act like he is won't change that fact. It's big time, big money, Football Bowl Subdivision-level action that he's immersed in. And while it's nice to have friends in the media, he's wasting time if he thinks they're all going to act as if they're on LSU's payroll and only disseminate the information he chooses to share, the way he chooses to share it. Fact is, by even suggesting that should be the case only shows Miles must have an easier job than anyone possibly could realize. The task of coaching a football team must not be difficult enough if he has time to waste chasing gnats (the media) when he, and his team, should be preparing for a future of hunting elephants (Alabama). Now, obviously, he's not the first coach to take issue with the media and, of course, he won't be the last. He's not the best to attempt to dictate the flow of information, and he won't be the worst. Generally, the relationship isn't adversarial and if it is, it doesn't have to be. And often the union can border on admiration, especially when a coach wins as frequently as has Miles, who is 25-4 at LSU, including blowout bowl victories against Miami and Notre Dame. But while the goal of one side (the coach and program) is to lie, deceive, conceal and misinform when it comes to parceling information regarding anything unflattering that concerns the team, the job of the other (the media) is to dispense truthful, reliable information.
