| Flynn's status undetermined BATON ROUGE -- LSU Coach Les Miles said Wednesday he's still undecided on his starting quarterback for Saturday's game against No. 12 South Carolina, but injured fifth-year starter Matt Flynn is progressing. Flynn, who started LSU's first two games, missed last week's game with a high right ankle sprain. Miles said Flynn looked better but was not ready to say he would start instead of sophomore backup Ryan Perrilloux. "It was encouraging to see Flynn out there taking a lions share of the snaps," Miles said of Flynn. "I think he's good enough. "He's much further along than last week at this time. Much closer to 100 percent. The starter is still undecided." Perrilloux had an outstanding game against Middle Tennessee State last Saturday night, completing 20 of 25 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns in No. 2-ranked LSU's 44-0 victory at Tiger Stadium. Miles said Flynn could have played but chose to protect his injury with Southeastern Conference games coming up. The prognosis for two other players was not so positive. Miles said it was "safe to say (senior guard) Will Arnold is not going to play" and that senior wide receiver Early Doucet "probably won't go." Arnold has a virus that has caused pain in his knees, and Doucet injured a groin during the Friday walk-through last week. Both missed the Middle Tennessee State game. KEEPING IT REAL: South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier isn't getting his team worked up with a lot of rah-rah enthusiasm in search of the big upset. In fact, he's close to waving a white flag of surrender for his 16-point underdog Gamecocks. "We're pretty huge underdogs going down there," Spurrier said. "We understand that. I'm sort of a realistic coach. I don't try to tell our guys we're going to go somewhere and kick somebody's tail when we're pretty huge underdogs. Flynn's status undetermined- NOLA.com
