| LSU to pay tribute to Hokies BATON ROUGE -- Saturday was an emotional day for the Virginia Tech family and football team as the school recognized the spring shooting tragedy which claimed the lives of 32 students and teachers at the season opener against East Carolina in Blacksburg, Va. The dilemma for No. 2-ranked LSU this week is how to put its own tribute in proper perspective when the No. 9 Hokies come to Tiger Stadium on Saturday for a top-10 matchup with the Tigers. Herb Vincent, LSU associate athletic director for external affairs, said the matter has been discussed since the summer, and that LSU has a plan that is agreeable for both sides. LSU's band will play Virginia Tech's alma mater after three skydivers land on the field, one bearing a Virginia Tech school flag, one with an LSU flag and the third with a U.S. flag. After the parachutists arrive, with the band on the field, there will be a moment of silence before the alma mater. "We wanted to be careful to strike the right tone," Vincent said. "We had meetings here and conversations with officials from Virginia Tech. We wanted to show proper respect but not be excessive in the recognition. "Virginia Tech officials were pleased with our plans. I think using our band to play their alma mater is an appropriate gesture." LSU to pay tribute to Hokies
