BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Tyson Jackson is among 27 players from across the country who have been named to the preseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, the Hendricks Foundation announced on Monday.
The Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award is named in honor of college football’s first three-time first team All-American. Hendricks starred at the University of Miami before going on to a 15-year NFL career that saw him be a part of four Super Bowl titles and participate in eight Pro Bowls.
Jackson, a junior defensive end from Edgard, La., enters his second year as a starter for the Tigers in 2007. A second team All-Southeastern Conference pick a year ago, Jackson has been listed as a preseason All-America heading into 2007.
Last year in his first season as a starter, Jackson led the Tigers and ranked fifth in the SEC with 8.5 sacks. He also led LSU with 10.5 tackles for losses for a Tiger defense that ranked No. 3 in the nation in total defense and No. 4 in scoring defense.
