DESTIN, Fla. — One good game. With two openings on LSU’s 2008 football schedule, that’s what senior associate athletic director Verge Ausberry is looking for these days.
Ausberry, who coordinates LSU’s football scheduling, said Tuesday while attending the Southeastern Conference Spring Meeting he is looking to land a “quality opponent” to fill out LSU’s 2008 slate.
Finding the right opponent — or at least someone to answer his calls — has been problematic.
At the top of Ausberry’s list: Texas A&M. Unfortunately, he said, A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne isn’t biting.
Byrne’s contention, according to Ausberry, is LSU’s decision in the 1990s to cancel the final two years of the contract between the two schools set for 1996 and 1997.
