LSU gets ?must-win?, ready for No. 1 Vandy

LSU (29-23-1) remained fifth in the SEC Western Division at 12-14-1 but together with Kentucky moved up in the overall conference standings into an eighth-place tie. For SEC seeding purposes, that equals ninth place for LSU, which would lose out to Kentucky in a tie because it lost two of three games to the Wildcats.

LSU will begin a three-game series Thursday at SEC East champion Vanderbilt.

“They’re the No. 1 team, but they’re beatable,” Pontiff said. “They’ve got losses just like everybody else, and I think we’re going to be all right up there.”

It’s anybody’s guess what LSU has to do to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament, but the Tigers agreed a good start would be winning enough games at Vanderbilt to earn a berth in the SEC tournament.
