Springdale Morning News, AR - 7 hours ago
FAYETTEVILLE -- The No. 6 LSU Tigers smashed a record for hits in a doubleheader Saturday as starter Emily Turner threw a no-hitter in the nightcap to sweep Arkansas with a 7-0 win.
LSU (45-6, 18-3) banged out15 more hits in the second game for a total of 33 for the day. Rachel Mitchell paced the Tigers offense with a 3-for-5 day with two RBIs and her seventh home run on the season. Killian Roessner was also 3-for-4 with two runs scored to make her 7-for-8 on the day.
Turner (15-5) kept Arkansas' hitters off-balance the whole game with a change of speeds, leading to seven strikeouts. Despite allowing no hits, Turner did walk three and hit a batter.
"Last year we really cost them the Western Division title and a shot at the SEC Championship," Arkansas coach Jamie Pinkerton said. "I told them all week that they would come after us today and they did that."
