LSU: BCS Championship bound?

I just read an article about the 2007 season, and it looks as though College Football News and Scout.com have penciled in LSU to play in the National Championship Game vs. USC. Of course it's too early to say, but i think the tigers have a great chance of going to the SEC Championship game and even NC provided they win some difficult games at home vs. Florida and Auburn. The team we dont really need to sneak up and bite us from behind is Virginia Tech. They are very well coached and have great speed and talent on the defensive side of the ball, returning linebackers Vince Hall and Xavier Abidi. And of course the first game against Mississippi State shouldnt be difficult.

Offensively, the tigers will return all except 6 starters. The main losses to the offense were of course JaMarcus Russell, Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis. O-LINE: Will Arnold returns at guard along with Herman Johnson. Left tackle Ciron Black returns with tough senior center Brett Helms. Carnell Stewart, a d-line conversion, has played well according to spring reports. RB'S: On the offensive side of the ball, the running back position is loaded. Talented back Keiland Williams returns, and with the help of Alley Broussard getting over his injury should provide a solid LSU rb tandem. Dont forget true soph. phenom Charles Scott and Richard Murphy, who so far has impressed the coaching staff during spring drills.Dont forget also Trindon Holliday, the lightning fast 5'5 rb who took one back for a touchdown against arkansas.
RECEIVERS: By far the biggest concern of the tigers offense. To shadow some of that is the return of athletic wideout Early Doucet and speedy sophomore Brandon LaFell, along with RJ Jackson, Jared and Chris Mitchell, Ricky Dixon and freshman 5-star Terrence Toliver.
QB: Maybe not a huge concern for Coach Miles even though its not a given who will start. Matt Flynn, who most remember from his dominating performance against Miami in the Peach Bowl, should get the nod. But dont overlook Ryan Perrilloux, the fast, athletic and strong armed quarterback. He's a hell of a quarterback and has been shadowed by JR until this year, which could be a breakout one if he gets to start.
TE: LSU will counter this year with familiar end Kieth Zinger, who is a tremendous blocker. Richard Dickson and Mit Cole both from the MS Coast should help out as both have good size and catch the football well.

As for defense, i really dont think there's any reason to go into detail. As far as the D-Line goes, we should be the best in the SEC at that position considering the return of monster pass rusher Glenn Dorsey. Marlon Favorite, Al Woods and Ricky-Jean Francois are all playing at the next level and look to solidify an athletic LSU d-line. At end is Tyson Jackson, who mauled most of his team offensive players during practice and is a very good pass rusher. Cornerbacks should be good with Jonathan Zenon and Chevis Jackson, and Craig Steltz getting the start at strong safety. Attempting to replace Laron Landry will be 6'4 230 pound hard hitting Curtis Taylor. Also watch former 5-star Jai Eugene as he will be competing for a spot all season long and should perform well on special teams. Finally at linebacker LSU will be good with returning senior Ali Highsmith, Luke Sanders and 6'4 235 Jacob Cutrera. Overall the LSU defense should dominate completely its weaker opponents and give hell to the stronger ones.

GOOD LUCK SEC AND GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Re: LSU: BCS Championship bound?

Hard to believe this team's going to lose Russell, the likely #1 overall pick in the NFL draft, and NOT have a huge issue at QB. But it's true... Flynn (or Perrilloux) should step into the role nicely. I think it'll be Flynn, personally. Sounds like you guys are pretty well set at DL as well. Landry's the kind of guy who's going to be tough to replace, IMO. What's the word on this kid Taylor?

Re: LSU: BCS Championship bound?

According to Miles after the friday practice " Tyson Jackson paced the defense as well as Craig Steltz and Curtis Taylor. After talking of the defensive line, he said"I also thought our secondary played well, paticularly Curtis Taylor who made a number of great plays" I havent heard of Taylor before either but he's a 6'4 220(correction from above) JR safety from Franklinton, LA..

Re: LSU: BCS Championship bound?

Not too much except that he's a 6'4 220 Ib. JR safety who made the move from quarterback to DB in hs. Apparently he's been drawing some praise from miles, who said friday after practice" Our defense has been solid. The secondary performed well, particularly Curtis Taylor, who has made a number of good plays all week"

LSU always has a good, very good team and they will be strong again this year but I think it will be mid season before the SEC championship picture will begin to show who will be going to Atlanta.
