Monroe News Star, LA - 4 hours ago
It's the No. 7 LSU women (23-4, 8-2 Southeastern Conference) versus No. 3 Tennessee (24-2, 11-0 SEC) at 6 p.m. on ESPN2. Chances are, it will be a very close game. Four of the last five have been decided by three points or less. There have been classic duels on big stages:
The No. 8 Lady Vols beat No. 3 LSU 63-62 in the SEC Tournament championship game in the most recent meeting last season in North Little Rock, Ark.
A month before that, No. 3 LSU beat No. 5 UT for the first time in Knoxville, 72-69.
No. 5 Tennessee beat No. 1 LSU 67-65 in the 2005 SEC Tournament championship game in Greenville, S.C.
In the last meeting in Baton Rouge, No. 1 LSU enjoyed a 68-58 win over No. 5 Tennessee in 2005.
In the 2004 Final Four in New Orleans, the score was knotted at 50 and LSU had the ball with the chance to score the game winner, but Tennessee got the steal, the bucket and the 52-50 win.
"There have been some tough games between Tennessee and LSU, whether it is home or away," Tennessee coach Pat Summitt said. "Playing at LSU will be a big challenge for us."
The Lady Vols are trying to duplicate LSU's perfect 14-0 SEC season of 2005. They are also trying to win their first SEC regular season title since 2004. LSU won the last two. A win tonight would clinch Summitt's 14th SEC regular season title at UT.
