| U of L's running game U of L's running game U of L's running game was inconsistent and sometimes stagnant last season, ranking third-worst in the Big East Conference with an average of 146.1 yards per game. The North Carolina State and Rutgers games stand out because of the balance. The Cardinals had 251 passing yards and 247 rushing yards at North Carolina State and 237 passing yards and 240 rushing yards against Rutgers. "When we ran the football, everything was better," Myers(offensive line coach) said. "We came back to win the game because we ran the ball against Rutgers. Myers is encouraged by U of L's stable of backs. He particularly highlighted Bilal Powell, Brock Bolen and Victor Anderson, calling all three "very explosive players." As much as offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm loves the passing game, the former U of L quarterback knows the value of a good running attack. "I think we've made strides this spring," he said. "Our goal is to be as physical as we can be and attack the defense downhill, to let our linemen win the game up front, to give our running backs a chance to get some yards on some safe running plays. If you're good at that, that opens up your passing game a lot more." Cards' concern: overall depth. Kragthorpe acknowledged "we just don't have many players out there right now." Help is on the way with injured players healing and some transfers joining the ranks, so perhaps even less can be gleaned from this spring in Louisville. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080417/SPORTS02/804170465/1028/SPORTS02
