Cantwell shows why he's U of L's next quarterback

3-year backup now center of attention

Despite his limited collegiate experience, Cantwell is projected by some NFL experts as the top quarterback available in next year's draft. At Louisville's Pro Day last month, Cantwell was surprised at how interested the scouts appeared in him, with many calling him by his first name.

The 6-foot-4, 231-pounder has all the physical tools. His hands have been measured at 10½ inches. No other quarterback at this year's NFL combine measured even 10 inches.
He showed off his howitzer-like right arm last week in practice on a perfectly thrown 45-yarder to JaJuan Spillman. Cantwell, a Paducah Tilghman High School product, is 3-1 as a starter at U of L. He has passed for 1,419 yards and 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions in 18 games.
