| linebacker Williams arrested on felony charge University of Louisville’s linebacker Willie A. Williams has been dismissed from the Cardinal football team after being arrested last night on charges of possession of marijuana, felony tampering with physical evidence and driving without a license. “I’m very disappointed in Willie,” Athletic Director Tom Jurich said. “I was confident that he had turned the corner in his life and was ready to be a valuable contributor to society and our football program. We wish Willie the best and hope that he can learn from his mistakes and move forward in his life.” Williams, 22, is the former star linebacker recruit who was arrested 11 times before enrolling at Miami in 2004. He played in three games for the Cardinals after transferring from West Los Angeles Community College. About 9:40 p.m. yesterday, a police cruiser pulled behind Williams on West Broadway and attempted to pull him over, according to a police report. Williams failed to pull over for several blocks until he stopped at Second and Broadway, where an officer found him chewing on marijuana, according to the report. Police told Williams to spit out the marijuana and found additional marijuana in Williams’ glove compartment. Louisville Metro Police say two other people were in the vehicle with Williams. Police say they are witnesses and declined to name them. Williams was arrested but later released on his own recognizance. He will be arraigned Monday in Jefferson District Court. Tampering with physical evidence is a felony that carries a prison sentence of up to five years. The other two charges are misdemeanors. | Re: linebacker Williams arrested on felony charge That's another hit on our defense which is near last in the nation. What a nightmare. I'm not approving Williams...everyone knew he was a risk. He didn't seem to play that great in the first three games anyways. This next game is going to be a determining point if Louisville can get a little competitive on defense instead of absolutely zero competitive. No, I'm not jumping off a bridge...lol Still a supportive fan and know it is going to be a long year. I think our head coach is good. Too little time to recruit and select staff with the sudden departure of Petrino. Looks like he may have to find a few different assistent coaches at the end of season, possibly. My guess is a 6-6 season for the Cards. Possibly 7-5 since Brohm and Douglas are so good. Also, tailback Anthony Allen can pound and run over people. |
