The University of Louisville football team got punched in the mouth on Saturday night in its 40-34 loss to Kentucky and it's time for the Cardinals to get back off the canvas, coach Steve Kragthopre said.

"I use the illustration of Muhammad Ali,'' Kragthorpe said. "He got knocked down a couple times and he came back and knocked people out. That's got to be us right now."

Kragthorpe said that he liked his team's attitude when it reported to meetings this morning. The players had a bounce in their step, he said, and were ready to get back on the field this Saturday against Syracuse.

He said that it's his job to make sure the players don't stay down after the UK loss.

"It falls on me," he said. "I'm the ship's captain. It's on me to make sure the ship's going in the right direction in a situation like this."

Time will tell if the defensive coaches can show if they can work with the talent that is there. There is talent so it is going to be a reflection on the defensive coaches if things don't improve defensively as season goes along.

Obviously, the offensive coaches know their stuff.

I'm just surprise the defensive line has been a no-show so far this year. The defensive backfield lost 3 starters last year. The defensive line should be as good as any we've had. Also, the linebackers are decent.

Every game is going to be a question mark(for a win) with our defense if it doesn't improve every game.
Kentucky has a good offense. Still missed assignments are killing us.

You guys hit the nail on the head - that defense, especially the line, has been a massive disappointment this year. You can't win every shootout, as evidenced by the loss to Kentucky. Sooner or later you need to stop somebody. If the Wildcats offense did that to the Cards, it makes me wonder just how in the world they plan on stopping WVU when the two teams play. Somehow, I really don't think they can even win the Big East at this point.
