LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team will open the 2007 season ranked in the top 10 nationally for the first time in school history as the Cards debuted at No. 10 in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll released on Saturday morning. Earlier this month, the Cards debuted at No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches' Preseason Poll.
The Cardinals received 1,031 overall points in the poll, 117 points behind No. 9 ranked Virginia Tech. The Cards are one of three BIG EAST Conference teams ranked in the top 16 spots in the preseason poll joining No. 3 West Virginia and No. 16 Rutgers. As was the case in the coaches' poll, Southern California is the overwhelming selection as the No. 1 team, earning 62 of a possible 65 first-place votes.
