University of Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe announced Tuesday after practice that
Justin Burke
will be the starting quarterback when the Cardinals open the season Sept.5 against Indiana State.
Burke, a junior transfer from North Carolina State, had been battling junior-college transfer Adam Froman for the starting job since spring drills.
He's been a consistent performer for us during the training camp, Kragthorpe said. I'm excited for him, and I know he's excited to be the guy that's going to take that first snap against the Sycamores.
Burke, 6-feet-3 and 229 pounds, is the team's only quarterback with Football Bowl Subdivision experience, albeit limited. He played three games in 2007 for N.C. State, completing 2of3 passes for 15 yards.
