Most of the
Kobe Bryant-related news out of Vegas has been gushing. He's
what elevates this country's team, he's
put the trade demands behind him, and he's
like an assistant coach. But you knew the real Kobe was going to peek through sooner or later. Or at least the slightly-devilish one that makes him such a polarizing figure.
From
La Nacion, with a linguistic assist from
Hoops Hype:
"Kobe came to me and, in perfect Spanish, he told me I should allow his defender to play harder or he'd get bored," Argentinian referee Daniel Rodrigo said.
And there you have it, the perfect summation of Kobe. Always looking for a challenge, always wanting it known how hard it is for him to find one. All that while mixing in the whole international angle, which is likely part of why he's so stoked for FIBA play.
One thing, though: When did he go out and learn Spanish? I thought he was only fluent in Italian.
