Kwame Brown

Brown had probably his best game as a pro yesterday. It wasn't how much he scored (17 points), it was more that we went 7-for-7 from the field with a sore hammy. That, my friends, is a "big boy" performance. Thank in part to his effort, the Lakers beat the Hornets and earned their fourth consecutive win. So is the fifth-year center finally starting to come of age?

Re: Kwame Brown

You would hope he is going to start to show something. He cannot be too old, since he came from high school. Goes to show that some players need to develop their game, especially big men, before hopping to the pros. But who among us would NOT take that kind of money when it was offered?
He is not exactly in the best environment to grow with Kobe hoisting up every other shot and nobody intent on dumping the ball down low.

Re: Kwame Brown, Michael Jordan, Doug Collins...

Now wait a minute, everyone. Here we go again blaming the stunting of Kwame Brown on Kobe, to go along with the decline of the Lakers, the destruction of moral values in america and an increase in liver cancer.

Let's look past the blinding light of certain Air, shall we?

Let's not forget how MJ disavowed making Kwame part of the Jordan Rules while the poor teenager was supposed to adapt to going from playing with a bunch of high-schoolers that would never make the next level to The Greatest, a guy old enough to be his daddy.

Let's not forget the breathtaking non-coaching abilities of Doug Collins, who worked Kwame in similar fashion to the miracle Larry Brown worked with Darko.

Let's not forget, in Air's desperation to get his Wizards into the playoffs just once for Mikan's sake, that folks like Larry Hughes, Tyronn Lue, and Christian Laettner got more playing time than Kwame toward the end of 2003-2004. (Which is not to say that these guys didn't do an excellent job with the tools and absent coaching staff that they had; hard-working pros all of them.)

And let's not forget that Kwame was overhyped in the first place.

Now, shall we still blame Kobe when, in fact, the Lakers' game is working far better for Kwame than any other squad thus far? It's not just the 7-7 performance, either. In the games preceding the Hornets game, Kwame went for 16 with nine boards against Milwaukee, and a career-high 21 points to go along with 12 boards while in Ron Artest's face in Sacramento.

Kwame is playing the best ball of his life right now. Whether or not he can ever be the focal point of any team is a question, but should he manifest himself as a reliable rebounder and third option, the Laker game reaches one level higher.

Cheers.

Well I got some basketball cards I am barely hanging on to...The Wiz is right...Kwane was way over hyped to begin with...and Kobe attracts the bulk of attention...so he is in a good spot for him...doubt he will become what he was hyped to be though...
