Kobe scores 50 again

Kobe Bryant scored 50 points in yesterday's 111-105 win over New Orleans, becoming just the second player in NBA history to score at least 50 points in four consecutive games. The other is Wilt Chamberlain, who did it in seven straight contests. No matter what you think of Kobe, this is an impressive feat, don't you think?

Cool Re: Kobe scores 50 again

Yeah, I would agree. Now let's see him get his team past the first round of the playoffs.

Re: Kobe scores 50 again

Kobe is not as good as Michael Jordan,
Jordan could jump from behind the free throw line with ease in his prime, Kobe uses special fx in commercials to generate a free throw line dunk
Jordan proved he was clutch at the tender age of 19 by hitting a game winner in a national title game.
Kobe at the age of 19 was throwing up 3 straight air balls, blowing the Lakers chances in a pivital game with the Jazz.
Jordan in his prime averaged 8 assists per game and showed a great ability to bring his team up to a level that was perceived previous to each season as impossible until Pippen matured.
Kobe is not as good as Jordan at creating shots for his teammates, just look at the facts, look at the production, Kobe will never have a season over 8 assists per game like Michael did because Jordan was the better passer/playmaker and Jordan was much better at collapsing the defense, and this is specificly why guys like Kobe and KG settle for jumpers, they know they cant consistently get to the rim, when they do it is spectacular, but we are comparing him to Jordan here.
In his prime Jordan averaged 3-4 steals per game, Kobe's peak so far as far as defensive hustle/steals has been around 1.5 steals per game. Even Ron Artest hasnt ever averaged as many steals as Jordan did in his prime.
Jordan had a hell of alot of 50+ games where he shot less than 30 shots because he was efficient, I think Kobe has done this once or twice.
Everyone wants to brush off the stats, but stats prove what you are trying to say, if you want to make claims then it is pure b.s. unless your name is Magic Johnson, or Jerry West, I mean come on, we are talking about Jordan here.
Jordan had 6 seasons where he won a scoring title shooting over 50% and Kobe hasnt even had a season over 47% shooting, now think about that.
Jordan's career ppg avg 30.12 will not be touched by Kobe because he is too far behind, dont blame it on Shaq taking shots either because Shaq never took a ton of shots, Shaq's fg% was near 60% anyways, Kobe still was taking 15-20 shots per night with Shaq there so you can take that automatic excuse away right now. Jordan averaged over 30 points per game for his entire career, and Kobe has only 2 seasons (soon to be 3) over 30 points per game. You really want people to believe Kobe is "better"?
Jordan won 10 scoring titles in the golden era of the NBA while Kobe only has 1, soon to be 2 in 11 years. Kobe will never be recognized as being better than Jordan on a worldwide scale because quite frankly it would be downright stupid to say that.
Jordan averaged 33.45 ppg in the playoffs career vs Kobe who is at 22.5 ppg in the playoffs for his career. Jordan shot 49% for his career in the playoffs and Kobe shoots 43% for his career in the playoffs, come on guys. Jordan averaged 41 ppg in the finals one year.
Seriously, Kobe is a career 45% shooter and you want to claim he is better than a career 50% shooter with a higher shot %?
Jordan was recognized by most of the league as the best defensive player of his era, when has anyone even claimed Kobe is the best defender in the NBA? It sure wasnt when Arenas was dumping 60 on him.
Jordan actually had a season 35ppg 53% shooting 8 reb 8 ast 3 stl, come on that is one of the greatest all around seasons ever. Now Kobe jacks up a ton of shots to score some points in some close victories over sub 500 teams and now we compare him to Jordan? I thought these comparisons went away when Kobe lost in the 2004 finals WITH SHAQ. I couldnt see Jordan losing to the 2004 pistons with Shaq as his teammate.
Jez, I really could go on forever, anyone comparing Kobe to Jordan, you really are enamoured with scoring, you dont understand what a complete player is, you dont understand fg%, and you glorify short term flashes of brilliance. Guess what, Kobe's career numbers are still virtually even with Vince Carter, seriously, look it up, and Lebron James career avg are so far ahead of Kobe I dont know why this isnt a Lebron thread.

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, bruce, and thanks for joining us!

Nice, well thought out argument, but no one here was comparing Kobe and LeBron... just mentioning Kobe's impressive feat. Truth be told, I'd take James over Bryant any day of the week, but I'm sure others here would disagree. If you want to chat more about LeBron, check out our Cleveland Cavaliers forum.

Re: Kobe scores 50 again

Kobe is more of the all-around player, though.

It depends on what skills and styles you are looking for.

Re: Kobe scores 50 again

Kobe is the best player in the NBA at this time hands down. I like LeBron a lot and he is a great player as well, but Kobe does things nobody else ever did with the exception of Wilt Chamberlain. Kobe does have 3 NBA rings last time I checked which proves he is no slouch in that department as well. What Kobe needs now is a complimentary player the level of what Scottie Pippen was for Jordan and a rebounding machine like Dennis Rodman. He showed what he could do with Shaq by winning 3 NBA Titles in a row.
