Luc Robitaille Retirement

Looks like the highest scoring left wing in NHL history is getting set to hang them up. Reports coming out of L.A. on Monday night say that Luc Robitaille will call it a career at the end of the season.

In 19 NHL seasons, he has scored 668 goals and assisted on 726 others. In 1992-93, he set a single season scoring record among left wings by racking up 63 points, and he is the only player at his position to ever have eight straight 40-plus goal seasons. He's played with the Kings, the Pens, the Rangers and the Red Wings and was a member of the 2002 Detroit club that won the Stanley Cup.

So what kind of hockey legacy does Robitaille leave behind? Is he a Hall of Famer?

Definitely. I hated that switch to Detroit to win the cup, though, when he'd been associated with one team for so long. There are a number of players who do it, the cup is so important they'll move on to any team to win it.
My opinion aside, he is definitely a hall of famer.

Ray Borque comes immediately to mind for some reason, and Karl Malone in basketball. I can kind of understand the desire to win at least one title before your career ends, otherwise you get all that "yeah, but..." talk that surrounds guys like Dan Marino. But I digress... I agree with your assesment of his career. He's definitely a Hall of Famer. You can't put up the best numbers ever at your position without being a Hall of Famer.

Hall of Famer easily. The thing with Luc is he nver was much of a skater...a tad slow...but he sure could find the net. He also had enough luck to play with some gifted centers of which "The Great One" had a lot to do with his Kings success...much like Kuri before him. Still how could you deny the man the Hall?

Cool Re: Luc Robitaille Retirement

Definitely a Hall of Famer. The Hockey Hall of Fame has even less stingent requirements than hoops. I loved Clark Gillies but he was a very good player - not even close to being great. And he made it. As And as Lefty says: anyone who puts up the best numbers at his position has to get in.

Re: Luc Robitaille Retirement

Not sure if anyone noticed, but there is a charity event that has Luc's retired jersey autographed on the auction block. Does anyone know what one of these items might go for? I saw an ad in LA's Variety magazine advertising the event for 03/24 at the Loews in Santa Monica - this jersey is something I would love access to. If anyone could help suggest what I might expect to pay for this, it would be very helpful.....

Luc fan

I am going with $1 more than the next highest bidder?...

I really don't know...checkout a publication like "Tuff Stuff"...the should have a section on Autograph jerseys.
