Is Jones worth $18.1 million?

Is Andruw Jones worth $18 million a year after hitting .222 last season?

Re: Is Jones worth $18.1 million?

I voted NO, but I don't think the guy is on the downside of his career. He's only 30, lol.

But I don't consider him the type of player who gets $18 mil per year. His offensive numbers aren't something like 50 HRs, 130 RBI. But he is good. Something closer to $13-$15 mil per year. The market has gotten a bit inflated so I understand how he got it.

Cool Re: Is Jones worth $18.1 million?

It's only 2 years so I don't think it's a horrible contract.

Re: Is Jones worth $18.1 million?

If he played all 162 games he'd be getting over $111,000.00 per game. Is any player worth that kind of money ???

I voted no for that reason. I don't think he is going downhill just yet.

Don't think of it like that. Then every deal looks bad.

That's over $10K an inning... ...As the songs says "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play...Look at me I can be Centerfield"

I agree and I understand exactly what you are saying, but I also try to look at it as entertainment that should be affordable to the middle American family. Baseball isn't the only sport that has gone paycheck wild. I also understand that for the teams and the individual athlete it is a business. All that said I just don't understand how anyone, fan or owner, feels that any player is worth $10K per inning. $3.333K per out. Some poor schmuck is working at McDonald's flipping burgers with a wife and a kid at home and he is hauling in a massive $8.50 per hour. I'll bet he is just as good at what he does as player "X" is at what he does.

I know ... that may not be the best of examples but from my perspective $10K per inning is far to much. What is the percentage of players today that actually graduate college and for those that do how many have a degree they can actually make a living with.

Please .... will someone kick the soap box out from beneath me !!!

Re: Is Jones worth $18.1 million?

No I don't think he's worth it. You have to figure last year was his big free agent year and Jones responded by batting .222. His glove while excellent certainly isn't worth that kind of money. Just doesn't pan out in my eyes.

Jones was never a big average guy though. He's a power bat with a special kind of glove.

Can't put it over the fence or score the runner from second if you can't hit it...

I like Jones, I think he is Hall worthy...but $18 mil is still crazy money rgiht now...nothing short of a .270 45-50 hr, 120-130 rbi year could justify it.

Yep, see, that much I could see them paying him...2/3 of the contract is okay as far as I am concerned.
