Peter Abraham reports the Dodgers will sign Joe Torre to a three year contract within the next 24 hours.

Don Mattingly will join Torre in Los Angeles.

Well, from rumor to fact is less than 24 hours. This one set new land-speed records. In addition to the Journal-News, the New York Times quotes two MLB officials who confirm the hiring. The question is, do you think Torre's the right guy for the job? Can he win in L.A. like in did in the Bronx?

Still not official but it's expected to be announced today. Torre is also likely to bring along Don Mattingly, Larry Bowa and Lee Mazzili (worked as an SNY analyst this year) as coaches.

Great move by the Dodgers. But it will be so weird to see Torre in Dodger blue and not Yankee pinstripes....

The Dodgers offered him three-years, guaranteed. The Yankees only offered one.

suedon's right, this will be a strange sight. Good hire by the Dodgers, though.

As for this being the same amount of money, as Empire says, it is three years. Plus I'm sure a lot of it is the principle of the Yankees asking him to take a paycut despite the team rallying to make the playoffs.

It's actually less per year, 13 million for 3 years is a little over 4 million.

Okay, Now let's see Torre win a World Series with the dysfunctional Dodgers.
