Penny pitching on 3 days rest

Dodgers P Brad Penny is pitching today on only three days rest. Will be he able to pull that off successfully?

There was a time when this was the rule not the exception...I am not sold on how pitchers can't go 40-41 starts and 280-300 innings these days...my gosh...this is the day of pitch count and relievers, better travel, better medicine...why is the rule 4 days rest?

Pitchers today just aren't made of the same stuff as the old times. Then again, go back and look at some of the old timers' arms after they were done, especially screwballers. Some of them wound up with some pretty serious deformities out of the whole deal.

The screwball is a tough pitch on an arm, no doubt...but I think it's the art of pitching that is lost...

Pitching in and off itself is a violent thing to do to an arm, and requires rest, stretching, icing etc...but I think bad mechanics from day one is at the heart of pitchers not going more than 35 starts 210 IP

Re: Penny pitching on 3 days rest

According to the AP, "Dodgers starter Brad Penny, going on three days' rest between starts for the first time in his eight-year career, allowed a run and two hits over five innings, struck out three and walked five. The two-time All-Star, who came in 12-2 with a 2.69 ERA in 18 previous career starts against the Rockies, decided to come back on short rest to face one of his favorite opponents."

L.A. beat Colorado, by Penny wound up with a no-decision. Still, looked like he did pretty well on the short rest.
