Eric Gagne Injury

Dodgers closer Eric Gagne is undergoing surgery again tomorrow. He's going to have a nerve removed from his pitching elbow and will be out indefinitely. "I'm very disappointed because I thought this would be behind us," Gagne said in a statement issued through the team. "It was a decision where I wanted to be 100 percent and be myself and enjoy it because I can't pitch with that kind of pain." So for the forseeable future at least, Danys Baez is the L.A. closer. Can he get the job done? Does Gagne have a future in baseball after his second arm surgery in less than a year?

Re: Eric Gagne Injury

I can't believe the injury luck the Dodgers are already having this year. It's like last year all over again. If they stay healthy they win the N.L> West in their sleep. With these injuries, it just doesn't look good.

The Baez signing sure looks good right about now.

Agreed. They must have come into the season sensing something like this could happen, because Baez is too good a closer to just be an insurance policy. Gagne is a beast when he's on, but he's been so fragile lately. That's what makes me think that, quite possibly, he's done. I guess we'll have to wait and see how the operation and recovery goes.

Re: Eric Gagne Injury

Tough break for the Dodgers. Hard to believe his career may be over already. The NL West is wide open this year and that injury should really hurt the Dodgers chances.

Re: Eric Gagne Injury

ESPN is reporting he should only miss 6-8 weeks. I thought for sure this would be season-ending...
