Re: Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer?

And where did Soriano spend his season this year, at second or in the outfield?

Re: Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer?

He can go in a second-baseman if he wants. When he leaves Washington this off-season, he won't be playing the outfield. According to the press, he hates it!

Cool Re: Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer?

The good news for you Biggio supporters is that he'll probably get in.

Re: Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer?

Soriano has 2 100 RBI seasons, has struck out at least 121 times in every full season he played, has a .971 fielding percentage, and says he is 30, but is probably much older. I don't see him as a Hall of Famer, because he wont put up the numbers necessary.

He is probably more like 32 or 33, but we will never know. Many of these Latin players, with little or no diocumentation to verify their ages, have fudged things a bit. The younger they are, the more appealing to a club they are and the more money they can make. I'd do it too if I could!

Re: Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer?

That is still pretty young baseball wise.

I really doubt Orlando Hernandez' age! He says he is about 40 but he looks older than my neighbor who is close to 60!

Re: Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer?

I just don't know about this guy. His career certainly doesn't match up to that of Biggio or Sandberg. My gut says he won't. He wasn't even the best player on his team the year he won the MVP. We'll see, though. I just don't think one can use MVP awards to justify these kinds of arguments, anyways. Every person who votes has his own criteria. It's an honor, but not really a fair judgment. He only dominated his position for a few years and only after Biggio's career began to decline a bit. Biggio could have been the MVP in 97 or 98...he was in the top five in voting, but writers have failed to notice him and his importance for his entire career. I'm not saying he was robbed, but it wouldn't have been a stretch for him to win it.

Anyways, back to Kent, his power numbers are, of course, impressive for a second baseman, but are not all that impressive otherwise, especially in this era, and his other stats don't really make enough of a difference. He's a good player, but he'd need a bunch of solid years to come to make his other stats solid, and, at 38 or so, I don't think he's got many left.
