Despite pitching woes and short-circuit hitting this season, the Rockies still can claim to be among the best in baseballin catching flies. Literally. In a casual survey of online health records at 11 major-league ballparks, Conde Nast Portfolio Magazine charted health-code violations in stadium food stands. "Most (reports) were minor. Some were, well, disgusting," the magazine said. The Rockies, with 16 violations in 2007, had the fewest problems among teams surveyed ? although inspectors found Coors Field's main kitchen to be "unwholesome." Angel Stadium in Los Angeles, with 732 violations, and McAfee Coliseum in Oakland, with 493, were the worst performers. A "major vermin violation" and "a cockroach infestation" plagued the Angels' home. And "overhead leakage" and "chemical contamination" were reported in Oakland. The A's declined comment to Portfolio.
