Angels sign Torii Hunter

According to the Associated Press, the deal is done: "The Los Angeles Angels, who have been trying to land another strong hitter for several years, agreed to a five-year, $90 million deal Wednesday with free agent Torii Hunter, who hit .297 with 28 homers and drove in 107 runs for Minnesota this year." Excellent pick up for Anaheim, don't you think?

Let's see here - Matthews has been tied to HGH and the Mitchell Report, and had the lowest fielding percentage among all AL center fielders last season. I'm sure they'll manage to find a place for Hunter.

Matthews will play Left I bet, but Hunter gives them another bat and with Garland they might be baseball's best

He will play CF just on reputation. He was probably promised that in his contract to get him to sign too.

Re: Angels sign Torii Hunter

Reputation or not, he's clearly a better centerfielder than Matthews was last year. Definite defensive upgrade.

Re: Angels sign Torii Hunter

This is great news for Angels fans. I wasn't exactly happy to see Orlando Cabrera traded away, but the pitching staff looks strong and now the lineup has some much needed help and added a solid CF glove. I wonder if they now set their sights on Miguel Cabrera.

Re: Angels sign Torii Hunter

With the surprise signing of Hunter, I'm wondering if (now that they have a bunch of players for their OF) if they will try to package some along with prospects to go after Cabrera.

Cool Re: Angels sign Torii Hunter

They gave Matthews way too much money in the first place.
