According to the Associated Press, "Francisco Rodriguez, who had a major league-leading 47 saves last season, avoided arbitration with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $7 million contract." Good idea signing K-Rod to a deal like this? Wouldn't it have been better to lock him up long-term?

I'm surprised the Angels let this go to arbitration. Makes you wonder if they can work out a long term deal this year or will he end up signing elsewhere (or possibly...although I doubt, being a trade deadline case).

granted K-Rod is very over-powering and wears some kick-*ss glasses on the mound...maybe LA isn't too worried about losing him considering the performance of Scott Shields in front of him...although rodriguez is so much younger than shields, they would be stupid to not sign him long-term after this year
