Ervin Santana Trade Rumors

It sounds like every rumored trade proposal this week involving the Angels included one of their top young prospects, starting pitcher Ervin Santana. From what I've seen, he's been linked to places like Chicago (AL), Boston, and even far fetched scenarios like Baltimore, Tampa, etc.

I don't know if the Angels should trade him if only because they can acquire a big hitter via free-agency. Plus, their rotation wasn't so strong last year and they can control him for several more years before arbitration or free-agency sets in.

Oh if only the Yanks would ship A-Rod back out to the West Coast for a quality young pitcher and some other goodies

Re: Ervin Santana Trade Rumors

The Yankees could use someone like Ervin Santana, especially because they are considering sliding Scott Proctor *yuck* into a starting-pitching spot.

"The Yankees will make a serious run with Scott Proctor. I mean come on this guy is better then everyone out there. THis guy can bring it, I mean who else would you want in the 8th inning helping tie down the win for a serious playoff game...I think his name is Scott Proctor" -Jim Rome
If any of you guys have ever heard this segment from the Jim Rome show last year sometime, it was the funniest and classic Rome sarcasm ever. Anyway I would do anything and everything to keep Scott Proctor out of the rotation, the Yanks will find someone suitable to put on the rotation

Re: Ervin Santana Trade Rumors

Yeah, that's a ridiculous thought- bringing Proctor to the rotation. I think Proctor makes a good 7th-8th inning reliever ( I mean, he's a lot better then Farnsworth, Dotel, Villone, and some of the other choices the Yanks have).

The Yanks could really use a guy like Santana in their rotation, especially now that Boston is working on Matsuzaka. I know this is a radical thought, but why not trade Hideki Matsui to LA for Santana? The Angels don't really have a set left fielder (right?) and the Yankees have the young ( <- always good) Melky Cabrera. Cabrera is miles ahead of Matsui defensively, and brings a nice bat to the end of the rotation. He won't be as good as Matsui offensively, but I think the Yanks need another starting pitcher more then they need Matsui. New York's lineup is studded with All Stars, Matsui isn't even the best hitter on the team. Williams, Thompson, or Hillenbran ( as rumors are suggesting) can be backup outfielders.

Cabrera can steal bases, hit well from both sides of the plate, and smack the occasional long ball ( 7 in his rookie year).

Getting rid of Matsui is something I couldnt get myself to do, the revenue he brings to the Yankees, as well as his clutch play is invaluable. Not to mention the competition we will have with Boston on the Japanese market. I'm comfortable with keeping Melky on the roster but he still wouldnt make my everyday lineup. THere was early rumors of an A-Rod to Anaheim deal that involved Figgins, Santana and a reliever ....although this isnt going to happen I would be more willing to go with that then give up Hideki

Yanks will never EVER trade Matsui. For one, he's a very good defensive outfielder and he's one of their best and most clutch hitters. And not even thinking about on the field stuff, he single handedly makes the Yankees so popular in Japan. People over there stop their days to watch the Yanks and Matsui play. He's a god over there.

The Yankees wouldn't give that international prescence away for anything.

Even for a ring young Santana could bring them?

Santana's hardly been proven to be an ace.

But he's better then Randy Johnson and Jaret Wright... two of the big reasons that the Yankees didn't win the Series over the past 2 years.

He had some good outings over the years.

He is young with a wide career ahead of him.

I'll check back on him in a decade

Exactly.

Matsui isn't going anywhere. It wouldn't make good business sense.

That probably is when the Yankees would look at him. 10 years after they had the chance to get him before his prime.

Re: Ervin Santana Trade Rumors

Word is that the market is starting to dry up for Santana.

According to Yahoo! Sports, "If Ervin Santana can't win on the road sometime soon, the Los Angeles Angels could find themselves in double trouble. His confidence could erode, and so could the interest of teams interested in trading for him... The Angels have discussed him in trade talks over the last year, as a young starter who could bring a big bat in return, but the return could be limited if clubs aren't sure whether he can win consistently outside Anaheim."
