| Angels Face Hard, But Not Impossible Odds So the Angels trail, 3-1, today entering Game 5 of the American League Championship Series? Five years ago, trailing 3-1 represented desperate, last-breath, season-saving progress for the Boston Red Sox. They, too, were matched against a Yankees team that included Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Mariano Rivera. They, too, were facing a succession of must-wins extending as far as they could see. They, too, were given the chances of a snowman pursuing a tan. "They will have trouble," the guy from Dallas promised, "making it to a fifth game." The Red Sox trailed, 3-0 - a deficit only as heavy as history itself; no team ever had recovered from such a hole to win a series.
