| Jasper likely to transfer LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky guard Derrick Jasper is likely to transfer to another school, UK coach Billy Gillispie said today, though no final decision has been reached. At a news conference to discuss the practice of early commitments from basketball recruits – UK has received commitments from an eighth grader and a high school freshman since last week – Gillispie said that the school likely will have an announcement next week about Jasper’s plans. “I would expect that he’s going to transfer, but it hasn’t been finalized,” Gillispie said. Jasper played in 20 games as a sophomore, starting six. He averaged 4.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, and his transfer would be a blow to UK’s perimeter depth. Gillispie declined to discuss how much a Jasper transfer would impact the Wildcats. “If he does that, we’ll talk about it at that time,” Gillispie said. “But our wheels are always in motion.” UK is continuing to search for players to add to its 2008-09 roster, Gillispie said. Meanwhile, freshman center Morakinyo “Mike” Williams is set to leave the program. Williams has been requested a release and has given UK a list of prospective destinations. He’ll be granted a release allowing those schools to contact him. UK guard Derrick Jasper likely to transfer | courier-journal | The Courier-Journal
