| Another Shawn Kemp likes UK Former NBA player Shawn Kemp signed with the University of Kentucky out of high school but never suited up in a game for the Wildcats. Now, some 20 years later, his son -- Shawn Kemp Jr. -- might have the opportunity to attend the same school his father originally wanted to go to. Kemp Jr., a 6-foot-9 junior at Cherokee High School in Canton, Ga., said yesterday after playing in the Nissan on Nicholasville Shootout at Lexington Catholic that UK, Florida, Washington and Nebraska are among the schools recruiting him. He is ranked among the top 100 players in the country by some scouting services. "Kentucky has been recruiting me pretty hard," Kemp Jr. said. "I still have another year, so I'm just trying to focus on basketball and school right now. "I've never really had a favorite, but I'm looking at those schools right there." In a win over Pleasure Ridge Park yesterday, Kemp Jr. hit 4 of 6 shots and finished with eight points, five rebounds and five blocked shots in 21 minutes. "We had heard he had no offensive skills whatsoever," PRP coach Dale Mabrey said. "But the information we got was very, very wrong. He might not be the greatest big man in the land, but he's a very solid one." Kemp Jr., who said he was told by doctors that he could grow to 7 feet 2, said he "knows about Kentucky" basketball and would like to make a visit. He also acknowledged that sharing his father's name can be tough at times. Shawn Kemp Sr. played 14 seasons in the NBA and was a six-time All-Star. "It does put more pressure on me," the son said. "I just have to live up to a reputation to play hard and good. I just try my best." Another Shawn Kemp likes UK
