| UK's Benson leaves basketball team LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky freshman Kerry Benson has left the basketball program, Billy Gillispie said today. Benson, a walk-on, played his high school basketball at Pleasure Ridge Park in Louisville. He played in two games this season for the Wildcats, averaging 11.5 minutes and 2.5 points per game. “He practiced (last) Thursday and didn’t come back on Friday,” UK coach Billy Gillispie said. “That hurts us, because he did a good job for us. We’re going to miss him, but he decided he was ready to move on.” Benson plans to remain at UK as a student, Gillispie said. As far as Gillispie knows, Benson does not intend to pursue a basketball career elsewhere. UK's Benson leaves basketball team
