LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks is on the road recruiting.
Other than that, he isn’t going anywhere.
Through a spokesman, Brooks today shot down rumors that he’s retiring or resigning from his post at UK.
“The rumor is not true,” UK media relations director Tony Neely said today. “Coach Brooks is excited about the future of Kentucky
football and continuing to build this program. He reiterates his goal – as he stated when was hired – of becoming the longest-term coach in Kentucky history.”
Rumors circulated over the weekend that Brooks was considering leaving UK after coaching in a bowl game. Broadcast reports on ESPN and Fox Sports Radio suggested the possibility.
In January, Brooks, 66, signed a contact extension through 2010. He has coached five seasons at UK and needs four more to tie and five more to pass Fran Curci as the school’s longest-tenured football coach.
Brooks is 24-35 in his career at UK, including 15-10 the past two seasons. The Wildcats are awaiting word on the location of their second consecutive bowl bid.
