| Re: Meeks sidelined for at least a month UPDATE: Meeks is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his groin area, UK coach Billy Gillispie said this afternoon. At a news conference today, Gillispie said doctors have told him injuries of this nature typically take four to six weeks to heal. Meeks took a hit during UK’s exhibition win against Seattle, Gillispie said. But Gillispie said he “could tell he wasn’t right” during the Wildcats’ loss last week to Gardner-Webb. Meeks was examined for an abdominal pull and a hernia before an MRI exam revealed the stress fracture. With Meeks out for a prolonged period of time and Derrick Jasper still out while he recovers from offseason knee surgery, UK is losing depth fast on the perimeter. Ramon Harris also is out with a foot injury. Jasper probably won’t return to running on the court for another two weeks, Gillispie said. Ramel Bradley, meanwhile, is “totally healthy,” Gillispie said, though he did undergo a precautionary MRI exam and wore a protective boot on a foot earlier this week. Bradley has returned to practice. Still, the Wildcats (1-1) are dealing with a rash of injuries during their down time. The Cats play next Wednesday against Liberty at Rupp Arena. Asked how his team would deal with its injury bug, Gillispie said, “You get tough and you figure out a way to make it right. That’s not the easiest thing to do, but we don’t have a lot of options.” UK's Meeks is out indefinitely with stress fracture |
