| Smith earns local bragging rights Alfonso Smith took it for a long time. Now the UK tailback is dishing it out. Smith, who played his high school football at Waggener, has been hearing trash talk from his friends who root for U of L. Some of them, he said, even sent him text messages just before last Saturday's game. After the Wildcats' 40-34 win, which snapped a four-game losing streak to the Cardinals, Smith struck back. "A couple people didn't want to answer their phones, but I keep calling them," Smith said. "I'm sure a lot of people lost a lot of money that day." Smith came dangerously close to losing a bet, too, though it didn't involve money. He and his brother-in-law, Joey Mitchell, made a wager that centered on public humiliation.
