| kentucky's low expectations.... Kentucky is a #8 seed, playing in philadelphia. I think thats the East bracket, or Washington D.C. bracket, or whatever. It appears to be a team without hope, without a chance, and shockingly enough a team without any support. To be honest, as one who has blue flowing through his viens, I would not have had the slightest bit of disappointment if they were not even selected. However, upon further reflection, they did win over 20 games in the SEC and had a solid non conference schedule along with beating several teams that were selected for the tournament including second seeded Tennesee. Still, much is left to be desired in the 05-06 Kentucky Wildcats. When the pairings came out yesterday and I saw Kentucky would play UAB my memory immediatley reminded me of 2 years ago. When Kentucky as the #1 seed was defeated by the upstart Blazers from Alabama Birmingham who were a #9 seed. Again UK plays the 9th seeded Blazers but this time in the first round instead of the second. I tried to think of players that were still at Kentucky that played in that game two years ago. I could think of no one but Brandon Stockton, Ravi Moss, Shagari Allayene, and Lukas Orbzut. Not exactly the core of the team. Maybe, just maybe this is a good thing. A team loaded with talent and with nothing to lose. It's a streatch I know but as a Kentucky fan you always have to look for opportunity and whenever there is a game to be played there is an opportunity to win. Even if Kentucky is able to somehow get passed to UAB in the first round the second round is no less of a challenge. It probable that they would have to face the Huskies of UConn. From my understanding they are the consensus choice to cut down the nets in April. But just as my memory stung when showing me that terrible loss to UAB two years ago it gave me reason to hope. You see Kentucky was a majority of analysts pick to be national champion that year until they ran into a 9 seed with nothing to lose. |

| Re: kentucky's low expectations.... The Arizona Wildcats and the Villanova Wildcats. If Kentucky can get the upset, we will have at least 2 Wildcats in the sweet 16. I like Zona's chances against Nova. We have good defenders in Chris Rodgers, Hassan Adams, and Daniel Dillon to slow down their guards. In the paint, Ivan Radenovic should get some easy points while Bret Brielmaier and Kirk Walters disrupt any attempts to drive inside. Arizona has a pretty good shot at this I think. |
