| What happened in Lexington? Two years ago Tubby Smith seemed to finally silence all of his critics. He did what he had been begged to do ever since he took the top post on UK's campus. He brought in some big time talent, including 3 McDonald's all-americans. The number 2 big man, according to all the experts, in the entire nation in Randolph Morris. One of the top 3 or 4 off gaurds in all the land, again according to the experts, in Joe Crawford. And one of the top point gaurds in the nation (according to the experts) in Rajon Rando. In addition they picked up key contributors Ramel Bradley and Patrick sparks last year. All arrows would point to The Cats having a successful season this year, but this is just proof that a basketball team does not equal the sum of it's parts. Last year Kentucky had Chuck Hayes, the previous year Gerald Fitch, go one back one more year it was Kieth Bogans, and the year before that Teyshaun Prince. Everyone of these players has over achieved in the NBA, all active in the league currently with the exception of Fitch. They have done so because they are Tubby Smith ball players. Morris, Rondo, and Crawford may be in the future but they certainly are not now. Tubby needs to recruit the players he wants, not the ones that rivals.com thinks he should chase. However, I am glad the experiment with the high ranked players was done, because this true blue boy knows for sure that a basketball team is more than the sum of it's parts. C-A-T-S.. CATS! CATS! CATS! Beat Ole' Miss |
