LEXINGTON, Ky. — He has yet to start a game, has played in only three and has a grand total of four career tackles.
And yet nationally, defensive end Taylor Wyndham might be the best-known player on the University of Kentucky football team.
You've probably seen multiple replays of Wyndham's crushing hit to Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, the most popular player in college football.
The hit sent Tebow to the ground, and on his way the QB's head collided with a teammate's knee. Tebow was knocked unconscious and sent to the hospital with a concussion.
Wyndham — a redshirt-freshman backup — became a household name in college football. In the days since, he's become a sort of cult hero.
By Tuesday, there were at least three groups on the social-networking Web site Facebook devoted to Wyndham's sack of Tebow.
“It's kind of ridiculous,” Wyndham said on Tuesday. “I mean, it's one play.”
