AMERICAN LEAGUE: K.C. blanks Twins; White Sox nip Rays
FREE PRESS NEWS SERVICES
MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Tiger Mark Redman pitched a five-hitter to win for the first time in seven starts, and John Buck hit an RBI double Tuesday night to lead the Kansas City Royals past the Minnesota Twins, 2-0.

Redman (8- allowed five hits, struck out three and walked none, keeping the Twins off-balance with pitches between 64 and 84 m.p.h.

The Twins fell into third place in the Central Division, 5 1/2 games behind the first-place Tigers, and fell a half-game behind the White Sox in the wild-card race.

Kansas City scored twice in the fifth. Emil Brown and Ryan Shealy hit one-out singles before Buck doubled off the centerfield wall, driving in Brown. Shealy scored on a groundout by Andres Blanco.

Redman, who pitched all eight innings in a 1-0 loss at Boston on July 19, won for the first time since July 25. It was his second career shutout. The other was on May 14, 2005.
So, not that there's a lot of competition, but is Redman the ace of the Royals staff? Or maybe its that kid Hernandez?
